One of the best things about living in New York City was the ease and frequency with which we could visit the great Metropolitan Musem of Art on 5th Ave. In many ways this building, and the treasures it contains, is the very soul of that great City.
My very favorite part of the Met is the Oceania Art wing. Most of the works there are hundreds of years old - but somehow look fresh and modern to this jaded 20th century man. The Papua New Guineans really had a special eye for design - one that continues to inspire me every time I see their work.
